The result is often a common catalogue of errors that can be, with more or less effort, headed off before they begin. So, the dog hasn't evolved to understand why you're hitting them. You have to be geared up to repeat the same order, day in and day out, and occasionally not get the same outcome.Dog Training - How NOT To Train Your DogJust about every dog owner truly wants to train their dog well. At first, the dog will have no idea why it's being praised but it doesn't matter as with repetition the behavior will follow the command. With repetition comes understanding. Never reward until the behavior is complete - Also don't become tense or angry after failure. To start take advantage of spontaneous behavior. It also has practical benefits. For the slow learner or assertive dog, it may be necessary to use a collar and short leash - two to four feet is best - 'Sit' the dog and kneel down facing him. But they don't reason out or get context the way humans do.Make the hand gesture, issue the voice command and move a treat or toy from the dog's chin to the ground while pulling gently on the leash. Praise and reward anyway, even though you had to 'force' the sit. It's totally counter-productive and won't help anyway. Many dogs take two years to learn anything beyond the easiest basics to the point that it consistently sticks. As important is what he is not doing! In a sit dogs can't chase cats, knock over furniture, run into the street. But dogs tend to be happy when the alpha is, and upset when he is. But that's reserved in the wild for only the most severe circumstances. Every behavior should be associated with a unique hand gesture that you don't otherwise use. There are alternate explanations for their behavior. 'Down' is one effective technique for imposing your alpha position. Hold off on food treats until you really need them. When the behavior is complete, praise lavishly. It's easy to use physical punishment as the first route of correcting a dog's behavior. Wait for a movement from standing or sitting to

New Skete Monastery in the snow.

New Skete is the collective term for three Orthodox Christian monastic communities in Cambridge, New York:

  • The Monks of New Skete , a men's monastery founded in 1966 by Laurence Mancuso, their first abbot,
  • the Nuns of New Skete , a women's monastery founded in 1969, and
  • the Companions of New Skete , a community of married monastics founded in 1982.

All three communities are under the omophorion of the Metropolitan of the Orthodox Church in America. They are best-known in the world at large for their breeding and training of German Shepherds as companions and guide dogs, and the training of all breeds in basic obedience. The Monks have written several best-selling dog-training manuals, including The Art of Raising a Puppy and How to Be Your Dog's Best Friend: The Classic Training Manual for Dog Owners . Among Orthodox Christians, they are unique in that they have instituted wide-ranging reforms to the divine office and eucharistic liturgies of the Eastern Orthodox Church, aimed at rendering the services more comprehensible. They maintain an extremely open stance regarding ecumenical contacts with other Christian groups; the nave of their newer temple features iconographic portraits of prominent non-Orthodox such as Pope John XXIII, Archbishop Michael Ramsey, and Mother Teresa of Calcutta, and the communities celebrate the feast of the Roman Catholic saint Francis of Assisi. This openness has brought them criticism from Orthodox conservatives and traditionalists; but the Monks and Nuns strongly defend their renewal of liturgy and monastic life as a necessity if Orthodox monasticism is to be more than "museum-keeping" in the modern world. The monastery has also attracted the presence of a small but vibrant lay community of cradle Orthodox Christians and converts from the surrounding area.

On 16 April 2007, the television show Divine Canine premiered on the cable television channel Animal Planet. The show features the dog training program of the Monks of New Skete.

(You're probably preparing lots of oysters, then, you sly dog!) Do you actually enjoy cooking? If you answered yes to these questions, you might just be a "Gastrosexual."

A couch for dogs! Whatever next...Some may find it tacky! Others stylish and practical! But actually I think it's quite cool. I came across this while skimming through the web for a new dog bed for my new Labrador. It was certainly one of the more unusual ones..Well worth a skim around this websites dog bed section though! Enjoy!

All puppies are small dogs - some, however, won’t be small for very long. You have to know how big your dog is going to be when it is fully grown before you can buy it a bed of its own, unless, that is, you don’t mind buying your beloved canine friend a new bed every six months or so for several years.

Investing on a good quality dog bed is one of the more important things a dog owner can do for their dog.
